Frequently Asked Questions
An Australian Business Number (ABN) is an 11 digit number that identifies your business to the government and community, and is used for tax and business purposes. Sole traders, partnerships and companies all have ABNs.
To complete an ABN application, you will require your full name, contact details, birth details, business details and TFN (tax file number).
Find your TFN by locating the documents which state it:
- Your income tax ‘notice of assessment’
- Any correspondence sent to you by the ATO
- Any payment summary you received while under employment
- Account statements from your superannuation fund
- Payslips from your employer may also state your TFN
If you had a previous ABN number, the ATO will reactivate your old number.
